January 12th: The Apartheid Museum

Today we visited the Apartheid Museum. The visit was informative and impactful for us. The museum has a long walk to the entrance with different outdoor art pieces that inspire reflection on South Africa’s past and present. Each person got a ticket assigning a random entrance door to them: this architectural choice introduces and emphasizes the racial separation of the apartheid era.

The museum’s permanent exhibition is a trip through the history that led up to apartheid, the long fight for liberation that occurred, and the post apartheid era. There currently are temporary exhibitions on Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu.

Here we all meet up walking out of the museum.
